VISUALIZING THE LIGHT SPECTRUM
Even though the human eye cannot see the entire light spectrum. Certain areas of it are difficult for the eyes to see clearly, and other areas are very dangerous to your eyes' health. CAPTIVATE™ Polarized lenses filter out harmful rays as well as light that confuses the eye, increasing clarity and definition with vibrant contrast and vivid detail.

Our eyes can easily distinguish the blue, green and red wavelengths along the visible light spectrum. However, it's where the blue, green and red wavelengths merge together that the human eye has a difficult time seeing clearly.

CAPTIVATE™ LIGHT SPECTRUM
This chart shows the peak chromatic response for the colors blue, green, and red.

  • Shaded zones represent the areas where light waves merge and confuse the eyes. This is where it is best to filter out light.
  • Think of the shaded areas as confusing light and the non-shaded areas as clear light.
  • CAPTIVATE™ blocks out the UV and bad blue light (380nm-430nm) – blue violet/HEV rays of light that are harmful to our eyes, reducing the risk of damage to retinal cells and age-related macular degeneration.

The visible light spectrum is the segment of the electromagnetic spectrum that the human eye can view. More simply, this range of wavelengths is called visible light. Typically, the human eye can detect wavelengths from 380 to 700 nanometers.

OLEOPHOBIC COATING
Wiley X utilizes a proprietary oleophobic coating on all CAPTIVATE™ polarized lenses to create a smoother lens surface, which helps to keep dust, dirt, oil, snow and water from sticking to the lens. This in turn helps prevent smudging and water spots, making the lenses much easier to clean than an uncoated, standard lens.

CAPTIVATE™ Polarized  lenses achieve a Bayer 7 rating for scratch resistance. A rating of 4 or higher equates to a premium coating.

ENHANCED COLOR
CAPTIVATE™ filters out the confusing light where blue merges with green (500nm) and green merges with red (585nm). This allows more light where it’s easier for your eyes to see, resulting in enhanced blues, greens and reds for a true color experience.

GREATER CLARITY
Blue light with shorter wavelengths and higher frequencies scatter light and create haze. By filtering out this “bad” blue light, CAPTIVATE™ removes the haze and allows distant objects to be seen more clearly.

INCREASED ALERTNESS / ELEVATED MOOD
CAPTIVATE™ polarized lenses allow the beneficial side of blue light – blue-turquoise rays – to be seen. This helps maintain the body’s Circadian biological clock and the sleep/wake cycle. This beneficial blue light also boosts alertness, helps memory and elevates mood.

BLOCKS UV AND BAD BLUE LIGHT (HEV-HIGH ENERGY VISIBLE LIGHT)
CAPTIVATE™ blocks the UV/HEV rays of light that are harmful to our eyes, reducing the risk of damage to retinal cells and age-related macular degeneration. It is important to remember that spending one hour outside on a normal overcast day exposes our eyes up to at least 30 times more blue light than spending one hour inside sitting in front of a screen.
